Our house is right near a stoplight intersection on a busy street. We've been here for some years. Over those years, it has been relatively common for a late-night DUI to take out one of the left turn signals that sit on the ends of the medians -- maybe once a year or so, although it seems like it was more common in my childhood than it is now. Today, that long history of "oops, there goes the signal again" comes to an end. The city is putting in a pair of new overhead signal poles, with longer arms to hold both the straight-ahead and left-turn lights. About time, I think. Wonder how much per year this investment will save the city.
