I know I thought of a couple of things to comment on here, today. What were they?

oh i know one. but i'm too tired now to go into the necessary detail. suffice it to say that california's state government is broken. between reapportionment to give incumbents safe districts, obstinate dug-in partisan positions vis-a-vis taxes and spending, the requirement of a supermajority (60-40? 2/3? i forget) vote to approve a budget, and term limits robbing the statehouse of veteran expertise (for better and worse), everyone seems perfectly satisfied to hide in their safe little foxholes and trenches and let california's essential workings fall off the budget cliff in the mythical way of lemmings. Midnight tonight is supposed to be the deadline for the budget to be done, but apparently we haven't done that on time more than once or twice in the last FIFTEEN YEARS.

extra-special aaaaaaaargh for the gerrymandering aspect. elbridge, you dork, look what you started.
